Pure Channel Healing Association has recently completed a Healing Therapy Study: The Effects of Healing to Improve the Wellbeing of Residents in a Care Home for People with Dementia.
Dementia and Alzheimer’s research often concentrates on patients with early onset dementia. In this Study we wanted to focus on discovering whether Healing could help those people who are in the later stages of dementia.
Healing (often known as Reiki, spiritual healing or energy healing) is a non-invasive, non-religious, relaxing and holistic therapy. We offered this exciting and, hopefully, beneficial therapy to residents of a Care Home for People with Dementia in Devon.
Similar studies involving this type of Healing Therapy have been carried out in hospitals, clinics, surgeries, hospices and private practices with positive results, but we wanted to extend the study to residential homes to document how, if at all, it benefited those in the advanced stages of dementia.
Healing Therapy is complementary and works alongside conventional treatment protocols (in NHS Hospitals, Hospices and private practice) and is part of the holistic care approach.
Patients, doctors and nurses have reported that Healing has:
Relieved symptoms of stress
Created a feeling of calm and peacefulness
Aided cannulation
Helped to reduce feelings of fear, irritability, concern
Improved ability to cope with pain
Assisted with side effects from medications including nausea, constipation and diarrhoea
Supported and enhanced the dying experience
Members to PCHA can obtain a copy of the report for free and it will be available soon for purchase for non-members via this website. Please contact Mandy Brown if you would like to be notified of its publication.
